We are saddened to hear of the passing of John Delugar, co-founder of Denham Bramwell Lawyers, on November 13, 2024, aged 81. John was a visionary leader, a steadfast advocate for justice, and a cornerstone of our firm’s founding values.
John’s career was one of excellence and dedication. After earning his legal degree and gaining experience in London, he returned to New Zealand to leave an indelible mark on the Manukau community. In 2014, John became one of the founders of Denham Bramwell Lawyers in partnership with Brett Abraham, Fiona Cowan, Sarah Vyle, and the late Peter Webb. Together they created a firm known for its client-focused approach in property, trusts and estates, commercial litigation, and family law. John’s leadership set a high standard of professionalism and integrity that continues to define our practice.
Beyond his legal acumen, John was committed to making a difference in the community. He was instrumental in establishing Habitat for Humanity in Manukau, providing invaluable pro bono legal services to support the organisation’s growth. His contributions enabled countless families to access safe and affordable housing. John also served on the national board of Habitat for Humanity NZ for nine years and was a past president of the Manukau Rotary Club. His dedication to service was recognised with his induction into the Manukau Business Hall of Fame in 2010.
We remember John as a humble, generous man with a deep commitment to the values he upheld throughout his career. His influence extended far beyond his professional achievements, leaving a legacy of service and mentorship that will continue to inspire us.
John retired to Christchurch at the end of 2016 to be closer to family. We extend our condolences to his wife, Anthea, his children and his wider family.
John Delugar’s impact on our firm and the lives of many in the Manukau community will not be forgotten.
