We have a new way to support family law clients.
Denham Bramwell is pleased to announce that we have partnered with JustFund, a new and innovative family law finance provider, the first of its kind in New Zealand. This partnership marks a significant step in our ongoing commitment to ensuring fair and equal access to justice for all clients navigating the complex process of separation or divorce.
What is JustFund?
JustFund is a specialised lender that provides flexible lines of credit to people involved in family law matters who may not otherwise be able to afford legal representation. Launched in Australia in 2022, the service has already enabled over $1.3 billion in relationship property settlements and is now expanding to New Zealand with a local team and office in Auckland.
Unlike traditional lenders, JustFund doesn't assess applicants based on income or credit history. Instead, lending is based on a person’s expected settlement in a family law matter. If approved, JustFund pays legal fees directly to Denham Bramwell, and our client repays the loan only once the property settlement is finalised.
What does this mean for our family law clients?
The reality for many people going through a separation is that they fall into what’s known as “the missing middle,” meaning they earn too much to qualify for legal aid, but not enough to afford the legal help they need. This can force people to remain in difficult or even unsafe situations or to accept less-than-fair settlements simply because they cannot afford to fight for more.
By partnering with JustFund, Denham Bramwell can now offer our clients a dignified, low-pressure path to access quality legal support. The service is especially helpful for those affected by financial control, domestic violence, or those who simply don’t have immediate access to funds during one of the most financially vulnerable moments of their lives.
Access to justice, without upfront financial burden
We know financial barriers can be one of the largest obstacles in family law. Our work with JustFund allows clients to focus on their legal rights and wellbeing, not the costs. Whether a case is straightforward or complex, JustFund helps bridge the financial gap so that no one must compromise on legal representation or outcome due to a lack of funds.
How it works
Clients interested in JustFund can apply through their family lawyer. If the application is approved, JustFund will cover legal costs directly and funds can also cover other costs associated with a separation, such as living expenses (e.g. school fees) and settlement funding. Repayment only begins after a final settlement is reached. Loans can range from $5,000 to $1 million, depending on the circumstances. Clients receiving a loan from JustFund pay interest on drawn funds, a monthly fee to use the service and a one-off administration & assessment fee. Law firms also commit to a Practice Partnership Fee to be part of the scheme.
Our commitment to client-centred legal care
At Denham Bramwell, we believe access to justice shouldn’t depend on your bank balance. Our collaboration with JustFund aligns with our mission to support clients with compassion, clarity, and fairness, especially during the most challenging transitions in life.
If you’re currently going through a separation and are worried about the cost of legal representation, talk to us. We’ll walk you through your options and help you access the support you need.
